The Road to the Cross

I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I love watching sheepdogs at work. I don’t often have the chance to see them herd, but when I do, it is so amazing to see those dogs snap at the heels of those sheep, driving them into a pasture or a pen where they don’t want to go. I like to think of sheepdogs when I consider the work of suffering in our lives. Just like a sheepdog, suffering barks and snaps at us, driving us down the road to the cross where, otherwise, we might not go. James Montgomery may have had sheepdogs in mind when he wrote, “I cannot call affliction sweet; and yet ‘twas good to bear; affliction brought me to God’s feet, and I found comfort there.” Wow, would you like to help bring comfort and encouragement like that?
