The Opposite Direction

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When Melanie moved the family into their new home, she painted the kid’s bathroom upstairs in a fish theme, with schools of fish all going in the same direction. Then Melanie painted in one solitary fish swimming in the opposite direction of all the rest – she wanted it to be a visual reminder for her children to boldly go where no fish had swam before; in others words, it’s important sometimes to not follow your friends! Although we all want to fit in, God calls us to be holy and that will definitely mean swimming against the crowd. Who wants to be the odd fish out? No one! But remember, you’re not following the crowd; you’re following 1 John chapter 2, where it says, “Whoever claims to live in Him, must walk as Jesus did.” Sometimes that’ll feel really different – but that’s okay. It’s the way it’s supposed to be when little fish swim in the opposite direction.
