The Hedge

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When I was a little girl, I played in my grandmother’s backyard lined with hedges because I was safe from whatever lurked beyond the thick, thorny shrubs. The Bible speaks of another hedge; when God tells the prophet Hosea that he would block the path of the adulteress with thorn bushes.

When I read that verse, I look at my wheelchair and think, “That’s me.” Not that my morals were in the gutter before my accident, but my life did not please the Lord. So, I asked God to do something to turn me around. Soon after, I had my diving accident. Now, my wheelchair is my Hosea hedge; it keeps me within the safe, secure boundaries of God’s protection. So, friend, if you’re headstrong don’t wait until the Lord hedges your path. Instead be content now with the confines of God’s commands and be grateful for his protection.

Pressing On: How to Lean on Christ through Suffering

After more than 55 years living with quadriplegia and chronic pain, Joni Eareckson Tada knows what it means to “press on” through suffering. Joni encourages you to join her in living out Philippians 3:14: “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
