The Gift of God’s Grace
I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. God’s grace is so amazing, it’s hard to define. Some say that it is “God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense” or God’s unmerited favor. It’s the means through which God gives us power to do His will. Others say God’s grace is a merciful gift and not something we can demand. However you want to define it, there’s one condition you need to receive it: James 4 says that God gives grace only to the humble. Think of the frustrating things in your life that humble you and strip you of pride – and don’t resent them; they are the very things that make it possible for you to receive grace in times of need. For me, my wheelchair can be pretty humbling, but I know it’s the very thing that makes me desperately need God’s grace. And how do you know when you have His grace? When you’re in the midst of hardship, you then have hope. You have peace and joy and the desire and power to do His will. And I would say that is pretty amazing.
