The Fool
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. An elderly friend recently took his whole family on a sailboat, but he sadly told us that while his 41-year-old son (who should know better) was near the stern of the boat, that adult son made an obscene gesture to a group passing by on a cabin cruiser. Immediately when I heard this, I thought of all the times in Proverbs when God warns us not to be foolish. Now, when I say foolish, I don’t mean silly. A fool is someone who lives as though God does not exist. A fool takes brash, rebellious, and reckless chances. A fool thinks there are no repercussions. Well, there are. For one thing, the reputation of that 41-year-old, this husband – who, by the way, also has children. His reputation has been significantly damaged. Don’t let it happen to you. Don’t act as though there is no God. Don’t be a fool. There is a God and He’s watching.
