The Comfort Of Others
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I do not like being alone when I am hurting. The other day in my office, I just could not work; I could not concentrate because the pain in my hip was so bad. A friend happened to drop by to ask if we could spend a few minutes together. “Oh, my goodness, yes,” I said eagerly. “And you know what? Maybe we can pray together right now.” Oh, friend, when you’re suffering, you need support. You need companionship. Even Jesus, the night He went to Gethsemane, did not want to be alone. He knew He was about to face terrible suffering, and Mark chapter 14 tells us that He took three of his closest disciples to be with Him. Look, if Jesus required the comfort of companionship when He was suffering, do we think we are above Him? That we can handle it all on our own? May it never, ever be. Today, if you are hurting, do not be alone. Ask a Christian friend for help and for prayer. I’m Joni Eareckson Tada.
