Spiritual Moderation
I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Have you ever lived your Christian life in spiritual moderation? You know, like part-time obedience, where a little sin here and there won’t hurt? Well, although you might live like that, God neither asks for nor does he accept half measures. That’s what Hosea chapter 7 means when it says that Ephraim is a cake half turned over. God just won’t put up with that – “half-baked” obedience is unacceptable to him.
We simply cannot be halfhearted about the Christian life. We can’t be half holy. God calls you and me to serve him with a whole heart, all of the time. Sure, you and I are going to fail, but be encouraged that although we do fail, Christ succeeded! I don’t want to live the Christian life in moderation, and I don’t think you do either.
So, don’t live the half-baked life. Instead put your whole heart into it, leaning each moment on Jesus Christ.
