Small Potatoes

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and last year, my friend Jill lost her adult daughter, Ashley, to cancer. Jill longs for that glorious day when she’ll see Ashley again, and so she keeps a bowl of small potatoes on her kitchen windowsill. Why in the world would she do such a thing? What’s comforting about that? Well, every day while she’s at the kitchen sink, and spots that bowl of potatoes, it’s a reminder of this paraphrase of Second Corinthians chapter 4, verses 17 to 18, where it says, “These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us.

There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.” I can see why that bowl of potatoes encourages dear Jill. And if the idea of heaven encourages you, think about setting a few small potatoes on your kitchen sill.
