Return to Your Father

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and when I was young, I always knew when my older sister Linda was buttering up Daddy to ask for extra cash. Drove me crazy when my father would actually give her a couple of extra dollars, even though he knew her motives! Kind of like in Luke 15; the prodigal son takes his extra dollars, lives like a party animal, and when his bank account dries up and he finds himself hungry and homeless, he goes back to his daddy. Apart from his humility in returning home, I wouldn’t say the prodigal’s motives were all that pure. But when the father sees his lost son returning, he doesn’t care. He runs to meet his son with open arms. Like that father, God knows us inside and out and still invites us to come to him, even when we have wrong motives.
