Rest In The Lord

A flock of sheep in a grassy meadow.

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and on the farm back in Maryland, we had a sheep named Bucky. Bucky would amble over to a bunch of hay, lower his head, buckle his knees and plop down. Such a contented sheep. I think of Bucky sometimes when I read, “The Lord is my Shepherd … He makes me lie down in green pastures, He restores my soul.” Oh, that I were like Bucky! ʼCause I am too often the sheep-on-the-go. I’m out to explore the next pasture, stick my nose in the fence, push against the unopened gate. And, like a sheep, I am so dumb I don’t know when to make time to rest. Friend, you and I need wisdom to know when to lower our heads, buckle our knees, and plop down to rest. Oh, sure, physically, but I’m talking about spiritually, too. Rest in the arms of the Good Shepherd. Please rest before He makes you lie down.
