Please Forgive Me
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and we say it when we repeat the Lord’s prayer: “Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Oh, friend, when we pray that, we’re actually asking God to forgive us in the exact same way that we forgive others. We’re asking Him to be as merciful to us as He sees us being merciful to others. Yikes! Think about that. Because you’re actually saying, “Father, do you see the way I’m quick to forgive my spouse? Please, would you deal with my sins in the same way? Forgive me just like you see me forgiving others.” Oh, my goodness; there’s a great lesson here. So, think before you pray the Lord’s prayer. Take those words seriously. If we want God to deal with us in the same way we deal with others and their mistakes, their offenses against us – then, be prepared to show mercy. For with the measure you use with others, guess what? God will measure it back out to you.
