Only Good
I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and there are so many scriptures that tell us that God does no harm to his children, only good. There’s Jeremiah 32 where God says that he does good to us with all his heart. And Jeremiah 29:11 where God says, “I know the plans I have for you, plans not to harm you but to give you hope and a future.” You know, but some people look at my chronic pain, and quadriplegia, and this new cancer, and they think, “well it sure looks like God is harming her.”
But the way I see it? Well, true, suffering does often harm our bodies. But our souls? Ah, suffering can do a world of good for our souls. There’s courage, perseverance, endurance and depth of faith, seasoned wisdom, unshakable peace, unwavering devotion to Christ, and the ironclad trust in the God of the Bible who’s always, always in control. This is the ‘good’ that God is talking about. And there’s no harm in that.
