Never Trust Yourself
I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And just when you start thinking that you know yourself (you know, like the bad things you’re sure you’d never do) ‑‑ bam ‑‑ you do something really awful. You’re surprised at the sin that you commit. Well, you’re not alone. None of us would have expected that Noah, a righteous man, would end up getting drunk. And Abraham who was ready to sacrifice his only son? He lied straight-faced. And look at Peter – there he is in the inner circle of close, intimate friends with Jesus, and he denies his Lord three times.
So, what’s the lesson? Well First Corinthians chapter 10 says, “He who stands take heed lest he fall.” Oh friend, never trust yourself. Because although you have a new nature, your heart is still deceitful. No; don’t trust you; trust only your Savior. Rely on his grace moment-by-moment; because it is the best and only way to live.
