Ministry’s Humble Beginnings

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. One Sunday morning, early before church, Pastor Mark saw a young man in a wheelchair struggling to open the bathroom door. Of course, Mark quickly ran to help. But what Mark had not counted on was that this young man’s request for help was in the restroom. With it so early, Mark realized no one else was around to lend a hand. Well, he got quite the education that morning. Because something else happened, too. The whole incident opened his eyes to the daily challenges that come with special-needs. That was it. From then on, Pastor Mark became his own church’s biggest advocate for disability ministry. Ephesians 1 says to “open the eyes of your heart.” Because when you do, you see people and their needs, just as God sees them. Follow Pastor Mark’s suit and make your church disability-friendly.
