Love In Tough Times

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Recently I was hospitalized with heart and lung problems related to my paralysis. For two weeks, my husband Ken camped out on a cot next to my hospital bed. I kept urging him to go home and rest, but he insisted, “Joni, I want to be here; I wouldn’t feel comfortable not being here with you.” Those words touched me deeply, but what really moved me were his actions, his persevering alongside me in the hospital. The Bible says that a man has no greater love than when he lays down his life for another. And for those two difficult weeks in the hospital, our marriage grew so deep and strong. It’s what happens when husbands and wives defer to one another in sickness and in health, for better and for worse. So, let’s not merely talk about love with words, let’s show love with sacrificial actions. It’s something my husband Ken does every day.
