Love God First

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I am constantly at war with myself. Let me explain. I know if God is not in His rightful place in my heart, guess who I insert there? Yep, I insert me. And when that happens, my relationships are all about me; my choices, habits, and plans are all determined by me and not God. Rather than be patient with others, I become a demanding tyrant. Now can you see why I am at war with myself? I do not trust me. The old Puritans had a saying, “Sinner, do not trust yourself.” And believe me, I know the sin and the pride of which I am capable. It’s why I am constantly asking the Holy Spirit to help me fight to keep Jesus on the throne of my heart. When we do that, what do you know, the Prince of peace rules the day and the peace of Christ rules in your heart. So, friend, don’t trust yourself. Your pride is too big. Let Jesus rule the day.
