John Harper’s Life Preserver
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. The sinking of the Titanic is a tragedy the world has not quickly forgotten. The Titanic was a state-of-the-art ocean liner designed to be unsinkable. And yet 1500 people died when it struck an iceberg and plummeted to the bottom of the sea. In those hellish moments, though, John Harper, a Scottish evangelist, kept sharing the Gospel with whoever would listen.
Even when he fell into the water, Harper called to a man nearby, “Are you saved?” And there in the icy ocean, he led that man to Christ. Later, he took off his life jacket and threw it to another person, shouting, “You need this more than I do!” Moments later, John Harper disappeared beneath the water.
Oh, friend, may his story never disappear. People all around us are perishing, so, let’s be bold to speak out like John Harper, and share the path of salvation in Christ today. I’m Joni Eareckson Tada.
