Jesus’ Example

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I think one of the most powerful statements by Jesus is written in John 13, verse 15. Where he says, “I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done.” This verse is why when I am tempted or when the devil taunts me with fears of the future or worries about my health, I remember the example Jesus gave me. ‘Cause Jesus fought off the devil with three simple words, “It is written.” 

So if an anxiety assaults me, I’ll say, “It is written, ‘Do not worry for your heavenly Father knows your needs.’” Friend, when I repeat Scripture, the devil gives up the contest. God’s Word is the weapon that Satan dreads the most. For when you use the Bible to combat the enemy, your cause becomes that of the Holy Spirit himself – and there’s no one stronger than him. When the devil attacks, give your adversary a “it is written” and you’ll send him running.
