House Of Mourning

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and it’s fascinating that nowhere in the Bible do we see an example of Jesus laughing. We can imagine he easily smiled and probably laughed with children and occasionally perhaps with his disciples. But there’s no record of it. Perhaps it’s because Jesus wanted to be known primarily as the Man of Sorrows acquainted with grief. My friend Francis Chan has said, “You and I make wiser decisions after our hearts spend time in the house of mourning. I tend to make good decisions at funerals and poor ones in restaurants. I have made wise financial decisions while surrounded by starving children, and poor decisions from the suburbs. We need to keep our hearts close to the house of mourning to avoid decisions we will regret.” Oh, friend, he’s right; life is sober; it’s serious. So, treasure those moments of grief and pain and loss. It’s a great way to identify with Jesus. I’m Joni Eareckson Tada.
