Help in the Woods
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. A few years back I was at a Joni and Friends Family Retreat. You know, the ones where we host special-needs families? And I decided to go on, as I call it, a “wheelchair hike” in the woods with my friend, Jennifer, who has cerebral palsy. We were both in our power wheelchairs on the dirt road – it was sure nice to be off by ourselves, one-on-one. But near the end of our “walk,” as it were, the batteries on Jennifer’s wheelchair went dead. She had forgotten to charge them the night before, and so there we were, stuck. And I could not help her! Thankfully, a couple of volunteers were using their break time to also take a walk. God bless them, they heard us calling and came running to the rescue. That there is just one reason why I esteem the wonderful volunteers who help out with our Family Retreats. Because it’s all about serving! So, sign up for a Family Retreat coming up near you at joniandfriends.org.
