He Upholds the Pieces
I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. I got a new slant on that verse in Colossians which says “in him all things hold together.” Because you know, some people liken our Creator God to a painter who creates broad strokes on the canvas of this universe, or a clock-maker who winds it up, steps back, then lets it run. But uh-uh. God is much more involved in creation than that. Rather, imagine him as an inventor. Like maybe the inventor of a television. And as long as God has his hands on all the little knobs, jiggling and turning them, the image of reality all around us is sustained. We can see it. But if God were to take his hands off what he is creating, it would simply cease to be. Amazing! He sustains all things by the power of his Word, it says. And if he is upholding the universe right now, how much more is he upholding the pieces of your life? Thank him for keeping his hands on the knobs of your life.
