He Took The Blow
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. A lot of people wonder why Jesus had to suffer so horribly. Why so much cruelty at the cross? Isaiah 52 even says that Jesus was so badly beaten, so terribly disfigured, that He looked “beyond human likeness.” In short, He didn’t even look human, it was that bad. But, why? Well, I’ve read through the Bible many times, and I can say this: when it comes to the gruesome, awful death of Jesus, in all that pain and torture, we have a clear and unmistakable picture of how much God hates sin. 1 John 2 says that Christ was the propitiation for our sin; that is, God poured out all His wrath and anger against you and your sin, and He poured it on Jesus. Our Savior volunteered to take the blow, so that you would not have to. Oh, thank you Jesus.
