Happy Holy Desire
There are plenty of things we “ought” to do, but rarely do we have a desire to do them. Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and the list of things we “ought” to do can seem formidable, right? We ought to forgive people who’ve offended us, we ought to seek the good of others, and we ought to pray often. We ought, ought, ought!
So, why can’t we do those things? Well, like Romans says, “The mind of the flesh is hostile to God … it is not able to submit to the law.” Oh, friend, only God can give us the desire to do the things we ought to do. And it’s why the prayer in Psalm 119 is so helpful. It says, “Incline my heart, O God to your testimonies.” Friend, if you pray that way, God will incline your heart; He will make your heart happy to do His bidding.
So, when you don’t want to do something you know you “ought” to do, pray and ask God for help. And He will give you that happy, holy desire to do the right thing. I’m Joni Eareckson Tada.
