Hand to Help
Hi I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. You know, Martin Luther once wrote that many people think they would have been quick to help that day when Jesus was born. People say that now because we know how great Christ is. But had we been there at that time, would we have done any better than the people of Bethlehem? I’d like to think that had I seen a young couple wandering into town, the wife ready to deliver a baby and with nowhere to go, I’d gladly open my door. But would I? Well, Jesus says in Matthew 25 that whatever kindness we extend a neighbor in need (even if it’s a needy pregnant woman with nowhere to go), when we help her, it’s the same as serving Him. We can use our time, prayers, finances, creative thinking, and our homes to serve others and the Lord will count it as service to Himself. Ask God to open your eyes to see Him in the eyes of that one in need — then open your heart and hands to help.
