God’s Delight

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I have a question: as a Christian, do you sometimes think you deserve a lighter load, especially when life has been really hard? Think of how Jesus deserved glory, but was often humbled. He deserved love, but was despised by many. He deserved worship, but experienced rejection. In contrast, you and I deserve humility, but receive glory. We deserve rejection, but God adopts us as children. We ought to be charged with sin’s curse, but God gives us His righteousness. This should clear up any confusion we might have about who deserves what. Nevertheless, God, with sheer abandon, showers His gifts and gladness on us – we who deserve zilch, nada, nothing. Isaiah 62 says, “The Lord will take delight in you as a bridegroom rejoices over His bride….” So get it straight about who deserves the honors; that’s when you’ll be a delight to God.
