Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When you think of comforting someone, what comes to mind? An arm around a shoulder? An encouraging note in the mail? Giving comfort doesn’t sound threatening. But now, picture yourself trying to comfort someone who’s angry because she’s just learned she has multiple sclerosis? Or comforting a young man who’s been sentenced to prison? For most of us, these situations are outside of our comfort zones. We’d like to help, but we feel that some other Christian better trained would be more qualified to give encouragement. But listen: 2 Corinthians 1 says, “Praise be to God…who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those [here it comes] in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” Have you ever received comfort from God? Then, friend, you are qualified to pass it on to anyone facing any kind of hardship!
