Driveway Respite
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and often, when Ken drives me home after a busy day at Joni and Friends, we pull up in the driveway; he turns off the ignition; he opens the side doors of the van, and we just sit there. Usually, an afternoon breeze wafts in and we can hear wind in our junipers. In the late afternoon, we’ll cock our ears at the cooing of a dove. Sometimes, we’ll sit there for 5 minutes, not even saying anything until one of us whispers, “Isn’t Jesus good to give us this?” Those moments are so refreshing. Isaiah chapter 30 even says, “In rest is your salvation; in quietness and trust is your strength.” Oh, friend, it’s a crazy, busy, hectic, frenetic world, and Christians can get so easily caught up in it. Today, and every day, find a way to enjoy the heaven-sent gift of quiet and serenity; the respites of His beauty all around you. Because in today’s busy world it very well could be your salvation.
