Don’t Flatter the Enemy
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I know you’re with me when I say that I would never, ever want to please the devil. I would never want to puff Satan up. Even the thought of it sounds creepy. You and I should hate him with a perfect hatred, as it says in Psalm 139. But listen to this. Every time you fudge the truth or slip in a word of gossip; every time you give a snide look or manipulate with a precisely timed phrase; even the most innocent of white lies… things that seem so small that we sweep them from our conscience… every time we sin in the slightest bit, Satan takes it as a gesture of appreciation for him. He considers it flattery. We are puffing Satan up and adding to his stockpile of ammunition against God. Oh, friend, may it never be.
