Doers Not Just Reciters
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and often I find myself saying words I don’t really find true. Like last Sunday during worship service when our church recited together Psalm 40. As we read responsively, I said out loud along with everybody else, “I proclaim your saving acts … I do not seal my lips, O Lord … I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help. I do not conceal your love from anyone.” And as I’m sitting there repeating these verses, I’m thinking, do I daily speak of God’s faithfulness and saving help? Do I always proclaim the savings acts of the Lord? I can think of lots of times I seal my lips from talking about God! Everybody else kept reading on, but, man, I had to stop. I was so convicted. But that’s the point of Scripture, isn’t it? To reprove and correct us.
So, when you recite Scripture, don’t be caught in a lie. Be a doer of the Word, and not just a reciter.
