Dig Up Your Field
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I love where Jesus says, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it…he went and sold all he had and bought that field.” Well, my field – that is, my quadriplegia, looks bleak and barren. I don’t think anybody would want it. But to me, it’s a beautiful field because this ugly field, this disability, contains the greatest treasure: through it, I have come to know Jesus better. For me, “selling everything” has meant giving up self-pity. It’s meant investing hours that I sit in this wheelchair to pray and dig into God’s Word to unearth the hidden treasure. Friend, ask God to open your eyes to the hidden treasures within your difficult circumstances. God has given you your particular field because he knows it contains a priceless treasure. So, do the hard work today of study and prayer and you will find Jesus, your treasure.
