Daughter of Abraham
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and sometimes people with disabilities can feel like they don’t rate. They’re not really recognized for all their many struggles. I mean, look at the disabled woman in Luke chapter 13. For 18 years she lived bent-over with a crippled back. But when Jesus heals her (get this), He calls her a daughter of Abraham (usually, people only talked about sons of Abraham). Back then, women weren’t given any recognition, let alone disabled women. They were really on the bottom rung of the social ladder. But here comes Jesus ascribing dignity, honor, and worth by telling the whole crowd that this crippled woman was, indeed, a daughter of Abraham. So, if today you are struggling with a physical hardship; if today, you feel like you don’t rate, like no one cares what you’re going through, remember, Jesus cares. For you, too, are a child of Abraham.
Disability and the Gospel
Learn how God uses our brokenness to display His grace. As a parent of a disabled child, Beates encourages believers and churches alike to embrace those who appear more physically and visually broken, and to help bring vision and hope to those who need it most.
