Danielle’s Story

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When Danielle’s car hit black ice, it skidded into a ditch and flipped upside down. Though her hand had been crushed in the impact, she was able to rescue her two little girls, and call for help. But it was clear; she would lose her hand. Danielle later wrote me, “Joni, we’ve got a new norm here, and it unfolds daily.” That’s so true: We all face new “norms” after tragedy hits. Could be the loss of a job, a lingering illness. Yes, life moves on, but no, it’s not the same. It’s why the apostle Paul writes: “One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on … to win the prize.” Moving forward in Christ is a new norm we can all embrace. Even with one hand. Help us serve people like Danielle as they struggle with their new norm. Serve with us at joniandfriends.org.
