A man holding a folded Bible in his hand.

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I wonder, how do you share the gospel? We encounter an unbeliever who is feeling discouraged, and we’ll try to make them feel better by saying “God bless you” or, or maybe the name of Jesusif we’re really brave. But then we walk away, thinking that we have given the gospel. But have we, really? What did Jesus say when He gave the gospel? Well, frankly, He said, “Repent, for the kingdom of God is near.” Always, in the Bible, the gospel is referred to as “the power of God for salvation.” And that means telling people that Jesus has come to save them from their sin, not just their disappointment from a college rejection or a breakup with a boyfriend. The cross is not primarily about addressing our sad feelings; it’s about repentance; it’s about rescuing our souls from Satan’s grasp. So, the next time you share the gospel, please remember that.
