Comfort In Affliction
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and one morning when Ken was driving me to work, I was in such distress because of my chronic pain. More than 50 years in a wheelchair can cause severe scoliosis and nerve pain. And I was ready to ask Ken to turn around on the freeway; take me back home. But Psalm 119 came to mind. It says: “My comfort in suffering is this: your promises renew my life.” And so, there in the van, I began reciting out loud as many Bible promises as I could remember; including promises that God will never leave me; that His grace is sufficient; that He’s my ever present help in trouble, that He bears my burdens, and so many more. And by the time I arrived at Joni and Friends, I was still in pain, but I had courage. God gave me perseverance to face the day. Friend, this is how you can prepare yourself to face times of affliction. Get to know the promises of God!
