Caregiving Woes
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Lately I’ve wondered why I haven’t heard from Barbara who often keeps me updated on her daughter April who is spinal cord injured and uses a wheelchair. Barbara is her daughter’s main caregiver. Just yesterday, though, I finally heard from her. Barbara confessed, “Joni, I’ve been lagging behind because we lost a key helper; it’s so frustrating; this helper was so excellent – well, until she wasn’t around anymore. Being short-handed is hard on everyone, especially April.” Barbara’s comment really moved me. She did not say how a shortage of helpers was hard on her, the main caregiver; rather, she focused on April and how hard it was for her disabled daughter. Philippians 2 says, “Look out for the interests of others.” And it’s what Barbara does every day. Pray that this family finds helpers, would you? And if you are a caregiver needing prayer, let us know at joniandfriends.org. Again that’s joniandfriends.org.
