Blindsided by Suffering

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When you’re blindsided by suffering; when you get that bad medical report; or your spouse gives up on your marriage; or when you realize your chronic pain’s not going to go away – when things like that happen, you gotta wonder how and to what extent God really is in control. Well, Jesus says in Matthew chapter 28, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” That’s about as sovereign as you can get. To explain it, Alan Redpath said this, “There’s no circumstance, no trouble, no testing, that can ever touch me until, first of all, it has gone past God and past Christ, right through to me. And if it has come that far, it has come with a great purpose.” Oh, friend, today, if you’ve been blindsided by suffering, know that it has first come through God, through Jesus, and only then, right to you. And that means it comes with great purpose.
