Birthday Ebenezer
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I just celebrated a big milestone: I am officially in my 70s! And to commemorate my birthday, I decided to raise an Ebenezer. An Ebenezer literally means “a stone of help” or “a stone memorial.” It’s when, in the Bible, the prophet Samuel built up a pile of stones, saying “Thus far, the Lord has helped us,” and he called it Ebenezer. That story inspired me to raise a birthday Ebenezer. I gathered with some girlfriends on the top of a hill, we sang praise songs, piled up a bunch of rocks, and at that point I announced, “Thus far the Lord has helped me, and at 70 years old, He’s gonna help me still.” It was beautiful. Hey, on your next milestone birthday, do the same! Do something memorable with a few friends and say together, “Thus far the Lord has helped me, and He’s gonna help me in days to come.” That will be your beautiful Ebenezer.
