An End-of-Time View
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And you know, as an artist, I know something about perspective. When I am painting and can see that my perspective is off, I tell you, everything looks wrong on canvas. And as a Christian I know something about perspective, too. For instance, sometimes our pains and problems seem utterly overwhelming, but that’s when we need perspective – a fresh point-of-view. And what’s the Bible’s vantage point on our suffering? Well, it says, “Our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” Friend, that’s what you need when you’re hurting – you need an end-of-time view. Otherwise, verses like “rejoice in suffering” or “welcome your trial as a friend” seem really off. The Bible goes on to say, “Fix your eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen. For what is seen is only temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” That’s right; it’s all a matter of perspective.
