Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and when my disability starts to encroachwhen my quadriplegia feels like too much, and if my wheelchair is overwhelming; when the pain increases, the temptation for me is to avoid it, escape it, run from itmedicate itThat’s what I used to doBut over the years, I have learned to welcome that trial as a friend, just as those first few verses in James tells us to doWhy welcome trial? Because it’s where your sweetest intimacy with Jesus can happenJesus is never more near you than when you need him in your suffering, and God’s presence in that trial is much better than trying to escape itThe Lord’s presence is never so sweet as when you are going through appallingly painful timesIt’s why the Bible tells you to count it all joy when the Lord leads you into a trialAnd He leads you into it so that you will find Him in a way that you never, ever dreamed. That’s good news today.
