Advocate
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I think one of the most poignant titles for Jesus is “our advocate.” The Bible calls him our advocate for a good reason. Like, you know there’s this courtroom in heaven, and Jesus is constantly defending us against every accusation our enemy the devil may throw at us. It’s good to remember that word advocate when we pray. Kinda like a lawyer presenting his case in court? He takes time to think through his request. And that’s how it should be when I’m approaching God about an important issue. God’s delighted when I arrive at his throne truly prepared for prayer. Sure, there’s a place for quick prayers, but when it comes to serious requests, thinking through a matter before praying shows the Lord the importance that you attach to it.
So today, thank God that Jesus is your advocate, and then, be your own advocate and be prepared for prayer.
