A Little While
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and, you know, after five years in a wheelchair I pretty much thought I had learned all the lessons God wanted to teach me back then. I felt I was more patient, more sensitive, and I counted my wheelchair a blessing. I thought I had arrived!
Little did I realize, I had such a long way to go … and decades later, I am still on that long way. In the same way, consider a tall oak tree. A long time passes before an acorn grows into that tree, and it continues growing even after it begins producing acorns of its own.
First Peter chapter 5 says, “After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace … will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.” Is more than four decades in a wheelchair only “suffering for a little while?” Well, according to God’s timetable, I guess so. Never put a time limit on the good that’ll come out of your hardships.
