A Foot In The Grave

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. A friend said an odd thing to me recently; he said, “Joni, I can see you’ve already got a foot in the grave.” Now, did he say that because I’m 70 and getting older? Does he think my health is failing and I do not have long to live?” He laughed and said he didn’t mean it in a bad way. “Joni,” he explained, “When I say you’ve got a foot in the grave, it shows you’re living wisely; you know your life is short and you are making the most of your days; you are living with an eye toward heaven, toward eternity. Just like 2 Corinthians 4 says, “Our present troubles won’t last very long. They’re producing for us a glory that’ll vastly outweigh them all and last forever!” When he explained that, boy, I had to laugh and agree with him. So, I pass on those words to you: if you’re a Christian, live like you’ve already got a foot in the grave, ʼcause you’re investing in heaven.
