A Clean Heart
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and there’s a wonderful verse in Psalm 51 where David prays, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” You know, as often as I sin – whether it’s pride, or holding a grudge, or cherishing inflated ideas of my own importance – as much as I sin, just as much you’ll hear me saying, “Oh, God, please create in me a clean heart. I hate my tendency to sin. Please give me a right spirit; I want to delight in obeying you.” I say that time and again. Over and over. And frankly, I am so weary of asking for forgiveness. I am so tired of sinning. It’s why when I think of heaven, I’m not excited about getting a new body free of paralysis. No, I’m excited about finally getting a new heart. A heart totally free of sin. That’s what excites me about heaven.
So, join me in longing and looking forward to that forever-clean heart hinted of in Psalm 51.
