A Beautiful Work

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and it was my occupational therapist who first taught me how to draw holding pencils between my teeth. My first work of art was an etching I did on a wet piece of oval-shaped clay. I watched as she put my piece of clay into the kiln. She was careful to not overheat it, or the clay would crack. When the process was complete, out came a beautifully glazed etching. From my suffering had come a lovely work of art. And to this day, it sits in my art studio for every visitor to admire. You know, a pastor once wrote, “When you are in the furnace, your Father keeps his eye on the clock and his hand on the thermostat. He knows just how much we can take.” Well, friend, you might feel like you’re in the furnace of affliction right now and, if so, be encouraged. God is doing a beautiful work in your life for all to admire, and he knows how much heat and hardship only you can take.
