In-Country Global Missions Internship: Thailand (Chiang Mai)

August 6, 2026 - August 9, 2026

Interns from Thailand serving with Joni and Friends will receive theological training, personal mentorship, and hands-on experience in the mission field, preparing to live out Christ’s call on their lives. Every intern at Joni and Friends will use their gifts and talents to bring practical help and Gospel hope to people living with disabilities. Whether you are majoring in special education, therapy, or ministry—or have great organizational, photography, or writing skills, come ready to unite as a team to bring the Gospel in word and deed to people living with disabilities.

Interns will receive training on the biblical view of disability and a theology of suffering through Beyond Suffering. Then, in practical application of their learning, interns will serve people living with disability through the local church.

Beyond Suffering is the flagship curriculum of The Joni and Friends Christian Institute on Disability. This core text aims to transform the way Christians view God’s Plan for disability and suffering through biblical education on the theology of suffering.

All interns have the opportunity to use their gifts and skillsets to serve their team and people living with disability. Joni and Friends and Stronger Together will collaborate to host a weekend of rest, renewal, and the sharing of Christ’s love. Volunteers will be paired with a camper with a disability or their family member, and together enjoy fellowship, inclusive worship, fun programming, and memorable experiences. Volunteers will have training and support during their experience from our leadership team, and many come back again and again to continue to experience the wonder of Family Retreat.
Interns will be mentored and challenged to implement disability ministry as part of their life calling, and learn what it means to be a servant leader.
College credit may be available depending on the requirements of your university.

“I’ve learned how to live with more understanding and empathy, to see new perspectives on life, to understand what people living with disability face every day, and to gain friendships and valuable memories that will stay with me.“ – Kanlayakorn, former intern
