When: July 9-19, 2027; Application deadline: December 31, 2026
Where: San Jose, Costa Rica
Cost: Payment is not due at the time of application.

First year Hardin-Simmons Doctoral of Physical Therapy students receive biblical education on a theology of suffering, using Beyond Suffering as a core text, during the Spring 2027 semester.
  • In Texas, Hardin-Simmons DPT students will serve at a Joni and Friends Family Retreat held at Camp Allen, learning what it means to be friends with a person living with disability.
  • As a capstone to the internship, students serve people living with disability through a Joni and Friends Wheels for the World® outreach in San Jose, Costa Rica. In application of their knowledge, students will have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus, meeting real needs through therapeutic intervention while sharing the hope of the Gospel.
  • The cost for this outreach is all-inclusive; however, any pre-outreach vaccination requirements are the responsibility of each individual traveler. Outreach costs may vary for applicants outside of the 48 contiguous United States. Joni and Friends will adhere to country protocols related to health and safety requirements.
  • We are carefully proceeding with this internship with safety protocols in place. If Joni and Friends cancels the event, we will refund or reallocate the donations in accordance with our current policies.
