The Samaritan Woman

John 4:1-42

“Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did.”

John 4:29

Everyone carries a story.

The Samaritan woman came to the well that day carrying a complicated one. She had experienced broken relationships, disappointment, and shame. Most likely, that is why she came to draw water during the heat of the day, when few others would be present.

Then she met Jesus.

What began as a conversation about water quickly became something much deeper. Jesus exposed the emptiness she had been trying to fill and offered her something entirely different, living water.

For years, she had searched for satisfaction in places that could never fully satisfy her. Yet Jesus offered a relationship with God that would become “a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

What stands out is what happened next. Instead of hiding, she ran back to town. Instead of staying silent, she shared her story. The woman who had likely spent years avoiding people suddenly became a witness.

Her past was real. Her failures were real. Yet her encounter with Jesus was even greater.

Authentic faith does not mean we have lived perfect lives. It means we continue to turn toward Christ rather than away from Him.

Many people are tempted to believe their mistakes disqualify them from being used by God. The Samaritan woman proves otherwise. God delights in redeeming broken stories.

Her testimony was simple but powerful: “Come, see.” That invitation led many others to believe.

Her past was real. Her failures were real. But she boldly ran toward people instead of slinking away from them, because her encounter with Jesus was even more real. Invite others to “Come, see.”
