DESCRIPTION:The Joni and Friends Capstone Internship provides graduate students with the opportunity to complete their final capstone project in the context of hands-on disability ministry. This program is meant to assist early career professionals (i.e. Occupational Therapy Doctorate\, Doctorate of Physical Therapy\, and special educators) in finding the pathway to connect their vocation to God’s global mission. This core text aims to transform the way Christians view God’s plan for disability and suffering through biblical education on the theology of suffering\, with practical application on building disability ministries.Empirical Research/Program DevelopmentIn partnership with faculty advisors\, a capstone project will be completed under the supervision of a Joni and Friends staff member\, in collaboration with one or more Joni and Friends domestic or international partners. Each volunteer plays an essential role during a Wheels for the World outreach. Serve with us in a seating therapist\, mechanic\, photographer\, seamstress\, or support role. Every team member will directly impact the lives of people living with disability. \nWhat to know about BrazilBrazil covers nearly half of South America and is the continent’s largest nation. Nearly 10% of the people in the Brazilian population live with a disability and many are confined to their homes due to the shame felt by their families and a lack of affordable mobility equipment. Additionally\, people living with disabilities are often neglected by Brazilian society and there is little to no initiative in creating accessibility for them. On this outreach you will have the opportunity to meet people who feel forgotten and trapped by poverty and offer hope by sharing God’s love and care for them. Join our team and use your gifts to work alongside our Brazilian partners to provide wheelchairs and Bibles to individuals living with disabilities. Cost and Safety Protocols\nThe cost for this outreach is all-inclusive and covers round-trip economy airfare from any city within the continental United States\, visas (if required)\, in-country transportation\, shared accommodations (double occupancy) while in-country\, meals while in-country\, and a cultural experience. However\, any pre-outreach vaccination requirements are the responsibility of each individual traveler. Outreach costs may vary for applicants traveling from outside the 48 contiguous United States. We serve our American servicemen and servicewomen who have visible and invisible injuries as a result of military service. Veterans\, along with their families\, are provided a safe space for respite\, spiritual renewal\, and healing. Your family will experience fellowship with others facing similar challenges\, and find new hope in Christ. Come enjoy a wide range of accessible family activities\, powerful speakers\, counseling opportunities\, and time in God’’’s Word. \nEvent Cost:\n$100 per family. Generous Joni and Friends donors have covered the remaining $500 cost for all participating families.Volunteer InformationIf you are a Christ-follower with a heart to bring help and Gospel hope to people with disabilities\, you can make a powerful hands-on difference by volunteering with us at a Warrior Getaway. \nAs a volunteer at Warrior Getaway\, you will join our team in offering experiences of healing\, rest\, and belonging to American servicemen\, servicewomen\, Veterans\, and their family members.
